anthony anderson died on friday night after a confrontation with police. his granddaughter's birthday party when officers assaulteda number of family members say they witnessed the event. two detectives are telling a different story. they say they caught anderson in a drug deal. >> they observed him put what they suspected to be some type of narcotics in his mouth in an atttempt to hide them. so they placed him under arrest for that, took him into police custody, put handcuffs on him. he then started complaining of discomfort and pain. it was believed at the time that he may have ingested some of the drugs that he had and maybe was choking on them. >> police say the officers have been placed on suspension with pay pending the outcome of this investigation. more on the story coming up at

a slight chance for a thunderstorm - -it will not be a steady rain. take an umbrella with you. >> new questions surrounding the death of the men while in police custody. >> jennifer franciotti has reaction from his family and why they are planning officers. >> that is right. 46-year-old anthony anderson died on friday after a confrontation with police. his family said he was trying to go to a party. police are telling a different story. this vacant lot is now a memorial to anthony anderson. he died after encountering police here on friday night. anderson's family says he was on his way to celebrate his granddaughter's birthday. however, two detectives report

that they caught him in a drug deal. >> they observed him put what they suspected to be some type of narcotics in his mouth in an atttempt to hide them. so they placed him under arrest for that, took him into police custody, put handcuffs on him. he then started complaining of discomfort and pain. it was believed at the time that he may have ingested some of the drugs that he had and maybe was choking on them. >> a number of anderson's family members say they watched the arrest unfold in a dramatically different fashion. >> what i saw is that i think that they killed him. they picked him up and slammed him and dropped him on his head. i feel that they killed him. >> i saw the police behind him pick him up in the air and went boom. and i'm going, "oh, my god. what is you doing to my son?" >> yvonne anderson tells us her father had a long history with police. she said his rap sheet includes a number of drug arrests. >> he's innocent. he couldn't even run, miss, because he had a bad hip. >> they said he was faking because he didn't want to go to jail. my father has been to jail
